about us

the liner notes

Roots to Blooms Acupuncture & Wellness is my passion project. It started with my dream of being an acupuncturist and grew to include a holistic skincare specialty, product line, and Six Flowers Academy, our education branch.

Not only do I continue my own studies deeper into Traditional East Asian Medicine, I offer classes to enhance my patients’ and the public’s knowledge of skincare and healthcare, nutrition, and spiritual work. My current studies include face reading and working with shadow through the lens of Traditional East Asian Medicine, two modalities I’m excited to bring to my clinic.

I love collaborating with other practitioners and can’t wait to bring back Poses & Pins and introduce an acupuncture and sound healing event plus other surprise collaborations. To keep up with our latest offerings, follow along on our Events page or sign up for our newsletter.

Meet Jessica

Jessica Prohuska, L.Ac. • Founder & Acupuncturist
Chinese Medicine, Holistic Skincare, and Emotional Health Specialist

_______

Hey, I’m Jessica. I’m an acupuncturist who specializes in Holistic Skincare, Emotional and Mental Health, Esoteric Acupuncture and am the founder of Roots to Blooms Acupuncture & Wellness. I partner with my patients to get to the root of disease so their health can bloom.

For me, flowers are life. From a young age I spent time in the garden with my grandmother and as a child I would pick wildflowers wherever I went. My love of flowers led me to a career as a landscape designer and professional gardener. With this background it was easy to make the switch to herbal medicine and eventually acupuncture. I am happiest tending to, being in, or making products with plants harvested from my garden.

My other love is music. I grew up with parents who appreciated and listened to all types of music. There was almost always a radio or record playing in our home and they took me and my brother to many family friendly concerts. When I was three my favorite song was “Rhinestone Cowboy.” Luckily, one day I heard Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” in the car on the way to preschool and from there developed an expanded musical palette.

Before becoming an acupuncturist, I had limited experience with acupuncture− I had received it a few times in my early twenties and studied Chinese Medical Theory in massage therapy school, but my passion was ignited after I was in a car accident and pharmaceuticals, physical therapy, and neck braces couldn’t alleviate my pain. I had acupuncture and cupping a handful of times and felt amazing. And pain-free.

I enrolled in acupuncture school shortly afterwards and was intrigued by the theory that humans are the meeting of heaven and earth. It was a mind-blowing philosophy that I was not expecting in medical school. I graduated from a master’s program in acupuncture and herbal medicine in 2018 and immediately started studying Chinese Medicine Dermatology for 13 months, then cosmetic acupuncture, microneedling, and face reading. So many health issues and traumas can be addressed by treating the face. Each year I continue my education in this medicine by adding more tools to my treatment toolbox. I am currently studying how to treat the shadow and trauma with Traditional East Asian Medicine.

After passing national board exams and becoming a licensed acupuncturist, I started working in a community acupuncture clinic. While I loved the patients and the fast pace, I soon learned that I had a different treatment philosophy than and was not fit to take orders from someone who didn’t share my vision. I started Roots to Blooms Acupuncture & Wellness in 2019 and have been helping patients with their pain, anxiety, digestive issues, allergies, and skin condition ever since.

I believe the mind and body are parts of a whole; I treat patients in accordance with that philosophy and empower them to be active partners in their health and wellbeing. I am forever treating a human and not a list of symptoms.

I am a mom, avid gardener, music lover, foodie, arts enthusiast, and animal lover. I am always interested in talking about your pets, plants, favorite recipe, or band.

People are often surprised what acupuncture can help with. I have patients seek me out for pain relief only to ask me if I can help them with their headaches (you’d be surprised how quickly), insomnia (yes!), hot flashes (yes!), anxiety (yes!), sexual dysfunction (yes!), old sports injuries (um, yes), stress (absolutely!), and various other ailments.

PLACES WE 🖤

The Book Teller

Located in downtown Whitewater, Wisconsin this used bookstore and artisan gallery is a must see. The Book Teller operates out of a historic bank and you can even read books in the original vault. The shop hosts open mic nights and a book club, and sells the art and wares of local and regional makers and artists.

Williams Bay Farmers Market

This cute, quiet lakeside village is Jessica's hometown and has one of the best farmers markets in the area.  The market is held on the lakefront in Williams Bay's Edgewater Park each Friday May to September. There is live music each week along with over 40 vendors selling flowers, baked goods, vegetables, jewelry, artwork, meats, cheeses, and bath products. Once a month you will find Jessica at the Six Flowers Apothecary vendor booth answering questions and helping patrons choose the perfect skincare item or candle.

The Grand Geneva Resort

This resort boasts of a golf course, ski hill, full service spa, and a weekly fireworks display, but what we love about it is the area located next to the Grand Cafe. This seating area is open to the public and the perfect place to relax and enjoy a beverage and tapas, or meet for coffee. In the winter months it is decorated beautifully for the holidays and there's a live jazz trio playing holiday classics. In the summer you can overlook the golf course and pool and enjoy some of our beautiful Wisconsin landscapes. Any time of year you will find canoodling couples (that's us!), families playing board games, and friends chatting over dinner and drinks.

we love to support artists

Earth without art is just “eh”…

Art can be anything that encourages a creative outlet. We support many art forms out in the community, and the clinic walls are lined with both art for art’s sake and art from local and national artists who support causes near and dear to us.

Two of Jessica’s favorite art mediums are street/mural art and woodblock prints. We have several pieces from street artist Shepard Fairey and a whole treatment room full of woodblock prints, along with paintings and photographs from local artists and friends, and even a small ceramics display. Each piece in the clinic is special to us and has a story behind it.

Curious about a piece or an artist? We provide QR codes with links to the artists’ websites and are always happy to discuss an artist or work. Browse our virtual art gallery here, and check out these pieces in-person at your next appointment with us!

“Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing through my open ears, inciting and inviting me. Limitless, undying love, which shines around me like a million suns. It calls me on and on, across the universe.”
